Any advice please on taking oliparab. I've tried with and without food, before and after food, but within 30 minutes of taking them I'm sick. I have anti sickness tablets but they don't help at all.

any thoughts?

  • Hi! I took Olapaib after my second round of chemo, following my op. I was on a two year course of 600 mg daily. On that dose I felt I couldn’t leave the house as I felt so sick so after a week or so it was lowered to 500mg. I still felt ill & had bouts of diarrhoea so decided to reduce it to 400mg after discussing it with my oncologist. I happily stayed on that dose for the remainder of the course with no ill effects & very rarely needed anti sickness tablets. I have been treatment free since September last year (2024) & am on three monthly blood tests. I am BRCA2 and stage 3c and I am 73, having been diagnosed just before my 70th birthday. I assume you are on the 600g dose? I recommend trying to reduce the dosage & see how it goes- it worked for me. Good luck  X

  • thank you for replying and I'll definitely try that. fingers crossed x

    • Hi, I’ve been on olaparib since October 24, following frontline treatment , stage 3c high grade serous oc. I wasn’t sick but really struggled with nausea for the first few months. I eventually worked out trigger foods and changed anti sickness tablets. Drank lots of water which helped a bit. It was awful to begin with, but now I have no side effects at all. Actually being sick must be so tough. Not sure how long you have been on the medication probably well worth discussing with your team if you need a dose reduction. I know some people reduce the dose with success. Take care.
