Hello
I have been visiting this wonderful group for nearly three weeks, but still am to have a diagnosis. Have 9cm complex mass, CA125 of 1234, thickened womb lining and suspicious looking lymph node. I have been referred to larger hospital in our area but waiting on being discussed at MDT as womb biopsy results pending. I have learnt so much from you all in this time and am so thankful for this and the flashes of positivity from hearing from those living life whilst battling and surviving.
I am trying to prepare myself for what is to come, but have a query. Initially I was told to expect chemo then surgery and then more chemo. This seems to be very common and I understand the particular cocktail of chemo will be dependent on the cancer. However, last discussion indicated I may go straight to surgery and then likely chemo. My understanding is that May because they can’t get a biopsy from the mass/anywhere else and this is why I have been tormented by waiting on womb biopsy took on admission.
can anyone let me know if one route of treatment is seen as more effective than another? What is implication for surgery prior to chemo? Is longer stretch of chemo more difficult to endure owing to cumulative factors?
TIA - I am just trying to fumble through with a little awareness to be able to make decisions and ask the right questions.
Hi, I’m sorry you find yourself here. waiting for results and a treatment plan is so hard to get heads around. I had chemo, surgery then chemo. I think the decision about the order is based on where the spread is and size of tumour. For me , the chemo before hand shrunk the size and made operation possible. I had a diagnosis from biopsies taken from a laparoscopy beforehand. I also think it usual to go straight to operation and a diagnosis of subtype and stage given after surgery. I think decisions about chemo and surgery are made based on what best for each patient circumstance. Chemo seems to affect everyone differently, I thought I might struggle after surgery but to be honest it was ok. I finished frontline treatment in September 24 , I’m feeling well , currently no evidence of disease and more or less back to doing most things. Good luck with surgery, it’s tough but honestly doable. Take care. X
Thanks for taking time to get back to me SEM.24. So pleased you are doing well and are NED - long May that continue!! Can I ask, how did your tumour and blood results present at diagnosis?
I have just heard back from womb biopsy - Low Grade 1 Endometrial Cancer and MDT now talking about the mass at ovary, so I know some but not all.
Hi, my cancer had spread throughout my abdomen when I was diagnosed with high grade serous ovarian cancer. My C125 was 368. I had no obvious symptoms. My ovaries were around 7cm , large and small deposits in my abdomen. Not in my organs. No diagnosis is what we want to hear, but stage 1 sounds very treatable, although I don’t know much about womb cancer. Fingers crossed whatever is found on your ovaries is not malignant or early stage too. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long. Take care xx
