Complex cyst letter

Hey i am 25 years old and been struggling with pain in my stomach for a few months, at first it was suspected appendicitis but after an ultrasound they found a 7cm complex cyst in my ovary. I’ve had multiple blood tests and then was referred for a CT scan which i am awaiting results from. But today I received a letter regarding the ultrasound scan I had a few weeks ago.
I have a bilocular mixed cystic and solid cyst with thickened septation with vascularity. Has anyone else had anything similar? I understand I can’t really do much until I get my CT results but the doctors haven’t really said much to me so is that a good sign?T

Thank you

  • Hi

My name is Sarah, one of the Community Champions in the Community, and I noticed that your post hadn’t had a reply as yet. It may be that no-one in the group has had quite the same situation, but as we are all only patients and carers within the community we are not really able to explain or interpret results.

What I can say in my own experience of dealing with a different gynaecological cancer is that is it typical for doctors to wait to collate the results from all testing before telling you more. They will wait for the CT scan results and use them, along with the ultrasound scan result to make a decision on what’s going on and what will happen next.

Typically, results go to an MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting which comprises a number of specialists such as gynae consultant, sonographer and radiographer where all patients are discussed individually with input from all the different professionals involved. From there, you would normally have an appointment to discuss everything with your consultant.

I understand how difficult it is to be waiting, but I think you’ll have to sit tight until the CT scan results have been received and discussed.

You are welcome to ask questions of the nurses, but they are independent of the nhs and do not have access to patient records. They are able to give general advice, rather than advice specific to you. The link to ask a question of the nurses is here-

    Ask a Nurse

I hope you don’t have too long to wait, and please feel free to ask any questions in the group.

    Sarah xx

  • Hi M.star

What a worrying time for you. It is so hard waiting; almost the worst part. I remember thinking that the doctors must know more than they were letting on; but it really was a case of waiting for CT result, then biopsy, and so on.

I know they won't give you a diagnosis until they are sure, whih is a good sign. Have you a date to go back for the results yet? My best advice is to stay calm and try not to overthink things; they will take care of you and do whatever is needed to get things sorted out.

    Sending best wishes
