Hello,
I’m having maintenance treatment for stage 3c ovarian cancer, diagnosed last April. When I was found to have BRCA1 I was referred for genetic counselling and from there was made appts for a mammogram and MRI, both of which I had last week.
The post arrives and there it is - the brown envelope (and with about 10 mins to spare before the school run). I’ve been invited back to the hospital tomorrow for a breast exam, mammogram, CT scan and possibly needle biopsy. I phoned to speak to a nurse who tried to reassure me by saying that they probably just need to see what is normal for me as breasts change during the course of the month (not sure mine really do as I’ve had a total hysterectomy). Since then, I’ve noticed that my armpit feels quite tender. So now I’m really worried.
I wondered if anyone else with BRCA had experienced any of this? I’ve read that it’s unusual to have both of these cancers simultaneously and that the chemo administered for ovarian cancer can provide some protection against breast cancer.
Sending good wishes to everyone.
K

Hello, I’ve had a biopsy so just waiting for the results. They were concerned about my right breast and I certainly wouldn’t have picked up on any issue there.
It’s sent me into a bit of a spin, if I’m honest.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar.

Hello,
I have had exactly the same as you with small lesions found in my left breast which are of a different cancer from my ovarian type - triple negative type. I am on my second chemotherapy round for the return of ovarian cancer having had three sessions followed by a scan and am awaiting results before having three more sessions.
I had an ultrasound of my breast two weeks ago and it is stable so not sure what that implies as the chemotherapy has not cleared it but it has not grown either.
My current concern is a permanent pain in my right side so hoping the scan will show what is causing this but I am seriously worried that the cancer has spread again. I did have a scan to check if it was a blood clot in my lungs but thankfully that was negative.
i am finding it quite hard to cope mentally as am not sure now how much longer I will have left.
