I have ovarian cancer, shown up on CT scan spread to peritoneal and abdomen, results of abdominal biopsy inconclusive, meeting with gynaecologist next week for feedback, has anyone else had this, what might next steps be , initially suggested chemotherapy then surgery, but now wondering if I might need more tests before treatment, also has anyone tried hypnosis to cope with anxiety and fears? Thank you.
Hi SEM.24
I can't help with your questions as I had a different type of cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
I'm sure some of the forum members will be along to share their experiences with you soon.
((hugs))
Hello, I haven’t had ovarian cancer but am Brca 1 positive and had some surgery last year, the fear and anxiety is so real. I have more surgery coming and can feel all this coming back. I have found relaxation meditation has helped. I had some hypnosis over the weekend and saw your question, so coincidental. I found it very relaxing, the person who did is a qualified hypnotherapist and he directed me to the website: https://www.hypnotherapy-directory.org.uk/ this explains a lot, he also advised me to look for someone with plenty of experience.
i hope this helps and that your understandable fear with what’s ahead can be eased.
Marie
Thank you for your reply, I’ve done some research and first session done , will give it a try , hoping it helps me to relax and be positive good luck with surgery xx
Thany you SEM.24 I think I will give it a go too. I hope it works out for both of us in bringing relaxation and a positive outlook. The best of luck to you also with the treatments you will need and recovery thereafter. I'm around if you'd like to get in touch at any stage.

Hi nature lover, after my second session have decided the approach hypnotherapist took was not for me, it was called solution focused and blimey not anything like previous hypnotherapy I have had before, could only talk about the good things that have happened about my laparoscopic operation this week! no mention of feelings all about a positive behaviour change. So no validation of how I was feeling about anything. I will need to do more research if I’m going to try this again, founding the headspace app helpful and of course family and friends . Hope you’re doing ok . x
Hi SEM.24
i have similar experience to you. Initially treating pain in right side as kidney/gall bladder. Large mass on right ovary when I got ultra sound done. I had biopsy on neck lymph node as it was easiest to access. Results were cancer but inconclusive as cells not typical of ovarian cancer . Suspected possibly colon cancer and ovary was secondary. Had another biopsy done on ovary mass. Still inconclusive but Oncologist feels it is a rarer type that they haven’t seen before. I am getting genetic testing done for Brac 1 and Brac 2.
I start chemo on 7th March . Doctors did not want to do any more investigations and reassured me that it was Definately ovary womb or peritoneum and all are treated with same chemo. I am having 3 cycles and then scan to see if surgery is possible followed by 3 more cycles.
it has been a really stressful time and still seems strange not having a definate diagnosis. But I am glad to get started with some treatment .
My anxieties were through the roof and I have used sleep meditations on an app on my phone that helps. The app is called Insight Timer. There are so many free ones out there, also aimed at fears and healing. I am a great believer in hypnosis and try it if it helps. Good luck with moving forwards. Although it’s hard , try to stay positive .
Sebding you good vibes and thinking if you xx
Hi Northern Lights , thanks for replying, I'm sorry that you have been going through a similar experience with inconclusive tests. Agree its all so stressful and yes staying positive is hard . I've had quite a tearful week and to honest ok with that , its how I feel for now . Following the biopsy I had a laparoscopy , and know now that I have stage3c high stage serous ovarian cancer. I thought I would feel better knowing, not made much of a difference. I am also about to start chemo 3 cycles then a scan , hopefully surgery and 3 more cycles of chemo. Thank-you for sharing the information about Insight Timer I will have a look , I have been using headspace app , good breathing and meditation. They have courses , there is one for cancer which i am working my way through. I too send you good vibes and will be thinking about you - good luck with the chemo. XX
Hi SEM.24,
I have not been on here for a while, thought I would see how you are getting on x
i have had 2 rounds of chemo now. First one was pretty brutal to be honest. I had really bad neuropathy in my hands and feet . Struggled to walk at all. But I contacted the helpline and was put on steroids which helped immediately . Also had constipation , heart burn and indigestion . Prescribed Oneprazole which worked well . Started to feel better after the first 10 days and improved a lot till my next Chemoi had my 2 chemo yesterday and have been fine. They have changed my meds a bit and put me on a reducing dose of dexamethasone for 7 days . Fingers crossed this will help .
I know everyone is differently affected. But I am glad this is ok and doable for me. I have lost most of my hair , but have a wig and my daughter is going to take off what hair is left.
I am feeling more optimistic for sure and have my CT Scan booked for the end of April.
I do hope you are doing ok and started treated now . Sending good vibes to you xxx
Hi Nothern lights , good to hear from you and sorry that chemotherapy is having nasty side effects. Really hope the new medication helps with this cycle for you. This is such a tough physical and emotional journey. The start to my chemotherapy didn’t go quite to plan. I was having taxol and carboplatin , but 5 minutes into cycle 1 I had an anaphylactic reaction to the taxol . It was very scary, after 3 injections of adrenaline I stabilised. I am having chemotherapy in a cancer centre , so needed to go by ambulance to the local hospital. What happened next you couldn’t write, the ambulance broke down in the fast lane of a dual carriage way , the police then had to shut the road to make way for a different ambulance to come for me . I spent the rest of the day and one night in hospital. I’m disappointed I can’t have taxol , but take some reassurance from the medical team carboplatin on its own should still be effective. So yet, another delay in starting treatment. I have had 1 cycle so far and my second one this Tuesday. Main side effect for me was nausea and as long as I took the anti sickness tablets manageable. It was like having flu without the temperature. I did experience constipation and have been drinking lots of water and I mean lots, eating dates and figs which seem to work for me. Still practicing meditation which I find helps me to relax and sleep. Good luck with the next cycle of chemotherapy and with the scan . I am thinking about you. Keep in touch xxx
Hi there,
I am so sorry to read your first chemo was so disappointing and scary.Such a frightening experience and the ambulance breaking down. What an awful time for you. I am pleased to hear you have started treatment now though. I had constipation and my Macmillan Nurse recommended Flax seed which has been a great help and natural .
I make up a smoothie of banana , flax seed 2 TBS. Then add whatever fruit I fancy and I have this every day . My nurse also said kiwi fruit with the skin on is really good too , so I throw that into my smoothie too. Drinking loads of fluids.
I seem to be affected mostly from day 3 for about a week then start to feel better. I have been doing lots of meditation / getting out for a walk all days I am able and have started going swimming now.
Good to hear from you and will keep in touch . Hope you journey is a bit smoother now and you start to feel better xxx
