Hi, I’m on cycle 2 of my second round treatment (carbo/Caelyx), and am feeling very queasy still, on day 9 of the cycle. Am taking metoclopramide that I had from my first round ( they didn’t prescribe it for the Caelyx for some reason, but I rarely had need of it last time so have plenty left over).

Wondered if anyone had any tips to ease queasiness other than the drugs

thanks

  • Ginger is a natural remedy for nausea. I nibble on crystallised ginger, and have recently found a brand of ginger beer which I really like - Fever Tree refreshingly light (low sugar, no artificial sweeteners). But there's also ginger tea, ginger biscuits etc.

  • Hi Riki, I am I’m in a very similar situation to you. Had first dose of second line chemo one week ago, carbo/caelyx, and feeling nauseous still. Am wondering if you found anything helpful, in the end?

    Thanks.

  • Sorry to jump in but your hospital should provide you with, if you wish, well I am provided with them but we have a conversation regarding what I should take (as in swallow when I go home) but I leave the hospital with both sets of tablets in case I feel nauseous:

     - 28 metoclopramide hydrochloride 10mg tablets

     - 4 ondansetron 8mg tablets

I personally have not needed to take both but if I wished to I could.  Make sure to ask for these when you go for your chemo (and of course you are given your steroids to take home with you as well).

  • Hi, yes I have the Ondansetron to take for the 3 days following, and I'm taking the metoclopramde 3 x daily for around the first 14 days of each cycle as the nausea is unbearable without them.  Even so, i'm on cycle 3 now and still struggling despite the metoclopramide.  It seems to get better around day 12/13 (fingers crossed).  I will discuss with the nurses on my next visit in case there's another tablet I could try instead.

Other than the tablets, I have found that Fevertree ginger ale is good - I really don't like ginger, and have tried ginger tea but I can't bear it.  The ginger ale is lighter and I seem to tolerate that better and it is quite soothing.  I'm also sucking sweets to try and keep the nasty taste at bay.  I haven't really found any other magic remedy i'm afraid.

    thanks for your replies x

  • I'm fortunate in that I have always liked ginger and I add it to my porridge.

Have you tried adding ginger to perhaps porridge and with some healthy blueberries too x
