My son is 16. He was diagnosed yesterday with burkitt' lymphoma. The doctors already decided to start chemotherapy today. Any thoughts, advice and experiences with this type of cancer on 16 years old boy?
Hi Mirela and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us and so sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. I don’t have Burkitt lymphoma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade NHL eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

Do you know the exact name of the treatment he is having as there are many so this information would help the group connect better with you.
It's been a while since we have had someone supporting a teenager on their treatment journey but if you check out Lymphoma Action you will widen your search for support and I know for a fact there are mum's supporting teenagers and younger through their treatment.
Lymphoma Action is the only UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have lots of good reliable information, videos and run various Lymphoma Action Support Platforms with a few groups specifically for Family and Carers...... I highly recommend these groups as there is nothing better than talking with other who have walked the journey.
They also have a Lymphoma helpline on 0808 808 5555 where Sharon or Nic will be on hand to give you some support - open every week day from 10 till 3.
Always around to help more or just to chat.
Hi , I'm Jean ( Gypsy river ) , I was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma last June , I spent 16 weeks in hospital , I was in remission as of October and still am , I'm not hopefully going to scare you but the treatment I got for mine was intensive 4 cycles split into 1-3 & 2-4 the same , 1st was fluids 24/7 for 13 days to stop is spreading... 2nd was much easier as it was 6 days long and lasted anywhere between 4 - 8 hours.. it's tough but he has youth on his side and fit... I was 55yrs old when I got diagnosed and it came as though a truck hit me.. I wish your son a speedy recovery and a fab 2023 , anything else just ask me xx
