Hi,

Im in my early 30's and I've recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma (03/12/2022) and commenced on CHOP chemotherapy 3 days later. I'm still awaiting confirmation from biopsies of a mass in my abdomen, as to which type of Lymphoma I have.

Despite only having one cycle of CHOP 13 days ago my hair is already coming out quite a lot (I'm not sure how long before it usually takes effect). I've cut it shoulder length but this is something I am really struggling with as my own hair was to my lower back and dark its noticeable. Any advice on coping with this change.

I feel like it shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things and that it probably is trivial but I can't help feeling upset each time I'm gathering up more hair that's come up from my clothing/pillows.

  • Hi  and welcome to the group. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade NHL (CTCL) eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

You can see my story using the link below but I only had gulling chemo (R-EPOCH) in late 2013/early 2014 and then went on to have two Stem Cell Transplants so I lost my hair three times.

My chemo cycles had me in hospital for over 120hrs (it was full on) and within 5-6 days getting home from my first cycle I woke up with my pillow covered with hair so I went straight into the shower and shaved the lot off….. it was such a relief and one thing less to get stressed about……. and yes in the bigger picture Hair loss is temporary….. the most important focus in this is having your treatment, getting through it and get back to living life.
