Hello all. Thank you for the add.
I am having a skin biopsy on 1 March as my dermatologist suspects that I have a cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Bloods to be done by my GP. I have had skin rashes off and on for years but recently have been developing a lot more on my lower back, buttocks, and legs - some patches are itchy and some aren't.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, this will be my second "rare" cancer in eight years. In 2014 I was diagnosed with appendix cancer - lots of surgery and chemo but NED since.
Love to all. James.
Hi James Jimbles and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with Cutaneous T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (CTCL) eventually getting up to Stage 4a so I do know this journey rather well. It's also important to know that Dermatologists will often call this Mycosis Fungodes.
From your description it sounds like CTCL but until the biopsy comes back with the clear results this could be any of a number of skin conditions. I will say at this point it took a year and 6 biopsies to eventually find the CTCL cells although my very experienced Dermatologist was 99% sure as to what I had.
I have talked with many folks over the years with CTCL who have lived many meany years with only having treatment as though this was bad Psoriasis.... indeed Murray Walker of F1 fame had CTCL and lived to 97 with very little treatment........ but some folks like myself ends up on a rather more demanding treatment journey.
CTCL is a slow growing Low Grade but incurable type of NHL...... but very treatable with many levels of treatment available
You can hit my community name Thehighlander and see my story but over my many years I have heard of a few folks having to walk the same journey.
I see you have joined the T-cell lymphomas group as well. Have a look In the group discussions as there are a few have posted with CTCL.
Happy to answer question and talk more.
Hi Mike. Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I did read your bio - you certainly have been through a lot - let's hope there'll be no more for you! Yes, we'll wait and see - I'm not overly stressed about it - it is what it is. Very best wishes for the remainder of the weekend. James.
Hi James, totally agree with the approach of don’t stress about anything until you have something to stress about
You're like me with two rare cancers. I had eye cancer years ago and then more recently cutaneous B cell lymphoma which then went rogue and turned systemic. Good luck.
