My brother has NHL. He has had his first chemo. I’m not sure he has fully got a grip of this.
Hi Sammy E and welcome to this corner of the community. Sorry to hear about your brother and in the early days getting your head round an NHL diagnosis can be hard.
It would be good if you could tell us what actually type of NHL he has….. as there are a lot and what is the name of the treatment he is having….. again there are lots.
In way of encouragement I was diagnosed in 1999 with one of the rare types of the hard to treats NHL and I am still around doing great although I have had lots of treatments over the years ((hugs)!
I’m not sure which one he has. He’s not giving too much away. It started with a swollen neck. I feel awful probing for info but I want to know more.
I think the thing you need to know that unlike solid tumour cancers like breast, lung, kidney…. NHL on the whole is very treatable with great results.
Yes the treatment journey eycan be hard work but it is only for a short time.
My journey was long as my type of NHL was rare (see my profile) but I also had a lump on my neck.
it looked like I had swallowed a brick!! It was something out of a Tom and Jerry film. My jaw had seized, my gums had swollen and we're coming up to cover my teeth. I was having great difficulty eating and was living on a liquid diet and my breathing was starting to be restricted. I had an initial 15min blast of Vincristine and that got me through our family Christmas. It was amazing the difference that first a Chemo blast made to the point I actually had some Christmas dinner…… that is how effective this can be.
Do try and find out more as we an help more ((hugs))
Thanks for that. I am glad you are doing well. I’ve just had a chat with my brothers partner who has enlightened me a bit. The cancer is under his arm and also started to take hold in his groin. I think he just takes bits of his conversations with his consultant. His partner works for the nhs and has worked with cancer patients. She has also had her own cancer woes so she is well up to speed.
Hi again, finding NHL in various places is not that unusual as where the blood and Lymphatic system flows in the body Lymphoma can follow.
Do check out the great information of them Lymphoma Action site, a small UK Lymphoma Specific Charity.
Always around to chat.
Thanks Mike. My brother has Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. I will look at the lymphoma action site. Speak soon take care x
We do have a specific Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma group so worth looking at the various posts. Although a High Grade NHL it is very treatable with very good results.
Diffuse large B cell is one of the curable lymphomas. It doesn't matter where it is, it will all just melt away. Good luck to him.
