Hello,

Two years ago my mum had her thyroid removed due to cancer. She also underwent iodine treatment has been fine since but had 3-monthly ultrasounds and blood tests to ensure no recurrences.

She had a CT scan in April 2019 and this was normal. She had a neck ultrasound in September and blood test and these were normal.

In November she noticed a lump in her neck/raised lymph node.

Subsequent tests have shown this is nothing to do with the thyroid. An ultrasound and FNA results were described to her as a "grey area/inconclusive" and that if she has cancer it is a second cancer - a lymphoma and not a thyroid cancer recurrence. She has been advised she will need to have the lymph node removed and tested to determine whether or not it is cancer along with another CT scan.

I am confused by everything I have read - can lymphoma develop so quickly? As stated an ultrasound in September did not show any abnormal lymph nodes.
