Hi all.

I hope you are all coping as best you can at the moment.

I'm.a trainee driving instructor and have been shielding for months now, as I'm sure many of you have too.

With shielding coming to an end at the end of July, I'm expected to return to the job on 3rd August and frankly im terrified!

It doesn't help that I hate the job either, but thats a separate issue. I dont feel that teaching lots of strangers to drive is a safe job for me, but im tied in for 3years  argh!

Rant over. Stay safe.

  • Hi , oh this is a hard one.

So I assume that you are on contact for someone or for a company. If so, they will have to Risk Assess you in line with the risk factors.

So punters coming into the car would have to be checked and this is where the track and trace or trace and track!!!!! comes in.

Once the shielding label goes then it will be up to your team/GP to advise you or fight your case - COVID in not going away soon and life will have to return to some sort of normal - whatever that is.

You could call our Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 and talk with our Work Guidance Team mostly open 8.00 to 8.00

  • Hi Justin,

I've just joined this site.  I am sheilding too, along with my 18 year old daughter who had her driving test cancelled during lockdown.  So concerned that she doesn't have to use public transport in September, we have bought her a car and family members are teaching her to drive and giving her driving experience in order to pass her test as soon as possible.  But what I was going to say to you was, would it be possible for you to teach only Shielding pupils in a similar situation to me?  Because, you would have been the perfect tutor for us in our situation.  Just a thought....
