Back pain..

Good evening all,

My lower back pain is getting steadily worse. Its horrendous at night and I can't sleep. It now aches for longer in the morning and this morning I was crippled by shooting pains in the right side of lower back in to my buttock.

I've got codeine from GP but its not helping. I emailed my cancer team 4 days ago, but as yet have had no response.

I'm getting concerned that my lymphoma has gone to my spine. The back pain is constant now, but 100% worse during the night! Once I get up its okay and I can function.

I'm wondering if anyone else here has had/has secondary spinal tumor/s and can explain what their back pain was like before being diagnosed please? I'm worried.

Best wishes

  • Good morning Jai .

Sorry to hear the pain is not improving. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis a number of years before my main treatment started so I do understand in someway having this type of pain...... ironically it has all but gone following my treatment!! but nothing ever showed up in my scans.

This was a Bank Holiday weekend so I would send your email again highlighting the developments, but also get on the phone to your team and keep putting your pointy elbows into the system.

Codeine is not that effective when the pain is bad so you could also talk to your GP in the mean time....... and watch out for constipation when taking Codeine as it can get bad - very bad.

  • I've had back and hip pain which showed up as inflammation on the final pet scan and the report said it is polymyalgia rheumatica. I was referred to a rheumatologist at the time. A full year on I'm still waiting for an appointment. I'm hoping that diagnosis was correct.
