Hello all,
A quick question about R-CHOP side effects... I am hopefully having cycle 2 on Monday and the first time round I have had constipation problems which I'm really keen to avoid... I've tried everything recommended, but the only result has been not being able to go for 3 or 4 days straight, followed by a day of non-stop diarrhoea - sorry for the overinformation! So I'm clearly not quite getting thing right!
If anyone has any tips, or ideas about what I should ask, I would be super grateful!
Jess x
Hi Jess, during my chemo and steroid times I was taking a sachet of Laxido (on prescription) am and pm and for me it kept the beast at bay.
Also good bran for breakfast...... for me it was porridge and lots of vegetables xx
Hi Jess,
I feel your pain. I didn't manage it well on the 1st cycle and paid the price. Diarrhea is bad, but a "clogged pipe" is worse. The doctor had me take Senna (pills) daily (as needed). I would start them a few days before the infusion. On the day of my infusion, I would take a dose of Fiber-Lax, and keep taking it daily as needed. If, after 3 days or so that didn't work, there was a stronger liquid you could get at the pharmacy - sorry, I can't remember the name of it. I had to use it once.
I think after 3-4 cycles the constipation wasn't as much of a problem, and I was able to take less of the laxatives, but the diarrhea got a little worse.
Managing the side effects can be tricky. I wish you well.

Thank you very much, that's really helpful! I think my mistake was not taking senna in advance of the infusion as advised, but I was worried about going too far the other way and ending up with diarrhoea! Then I was completely "blocked" for days and it was horrible. I'm going to try what you suggest and fingers crossed it will work better!
Hi Jess,
also do ensure you get LOTS of water as that keeps everything (!) moist which again helps (yup, tmi, but that’s the way it helps, hope you don’t experience this rebound next time!)
