  • Hi Alice, ....... I am just in so first chance to catch up - I am so sorry to hear this news and some caring ((hugs)) coming your way xx

Not being a medical person I can’t make any judgements as to the pros and cons of the best way forward for you as an individual.

Was this their recommended way forward or was this part of the overall discussions during the meeting with regards to various ways to go forward?

Did you ask what would be the plan if you did not want to terminate?

What treatment plans were they talking about.

Have they been in this position before?

Have they consulted with other specialists who have been faced with the same challenges?

........ lots of questions, but I tend to continually ask questions to better understand.

There are plenty who have came through NHL relapse and went on to find remission.

It may be beneficial to call the Macmillan Helpline on 0808 808 00 00 as you will get to talk with someone who can listen, get emotional support, practical Information and clinical Information......... open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link.

    ((Hugs)) again xx

  • Hi @Alice123,

My name is Ellen and I’m one of the nurses working with the Online Community Team. I hope you don’t mind but they have asked if there was any further support that we could offer you.

I’ve had a look at your activity and can see that you’ve been getting a lot of support from our Community. That’s great to see as there is nothing quite like the support that you can get from others.

It’s hardly any wonder that you’re feeling as if you’re going to have a breakdown and it’s understandable why you’re feeling terrified when the consultant suggested that you abort your baby. I can’t even begin to imagine what you must be feeling just now. But I can appreciate why you want to contact someone who can share some uplifting stories with you right now.

It’s important that you talk to someone about how you’re feeling today. Your GP and healthcare team can help you cope with your emotions. You can speak with your GP, clinical nurse specialist or key worker first. They will be able to refer you to members of the wider healthcare team, such as a counsellor or a clinical psychologist.

We would try to encourage you to pick up the phone and speak to one of our nurses on 0808-808-0000. Our nurses are available from 8am till 8pm every day and would be more than happy to talk to you about what is happening. Your call will be confidential.

I can see that you’ve already spoken to Mummy’s Star and getting support. Have you joined their online forum too as there may be someone there who could offer you support?

It can be difficult to make sense of all the information that the doctors gave you yesterday as no doubt you would have been in shock. You can ask to go back and discuss what the doctors have said to you again or to speak with your haematologist again. Mummy’s Star has these Frequently Asked Questions that can be helpful to look at before talking to the doctors at your next visit.

    Best wishes and take care

Ellen -Macmillan Online Digital Nurse Specialist.
