Hi, I've just spoken to my haematology specialist today and she told me the ritixumab treatment I had didn't work and my spleen is slightly larger than it was.  She can't give me rituximab again as the first session i started fitting. They slowed it down and all seemed to go well until the fourth and final treatment. I was an hour in when my tongue started selling and I went into anaphlactic reaction. They stopped the drip and I was sent to a ward for 24 hours as they checked me out.  My specialist is talking to the MDT on Thursday and will ring me with their suggestions.  I just wondered if anyone else had experienced that kind of reaction and is go what further treatment did you get?

  • Hi  sorry to hear about your reaction to Rituximab…… it’s actually not that unusual.

I had over 600hrs of Rituximab over my 6 cycles of R-EPOCH. I have/had a known drug allergy so I was on significant antihistamine IV throughout the 5 nights/6 days of each treatment……. for me this treatment was being used to open the door for an Allograft Stem Cell Transplant..

I am not sure as to what the next plan would be……. What type of NHL do you have?

  • Hi, sorry to hear this. As Highlander says it is quite common. I had ritux injections and was fine on them but when I had it intravenously I went in to anaphylactic shock and ended up admitted. My Consultant said it was probably becos my bloods counts were so low that I reacted to it so badly. He changed to a different drug and I was fine n that. That was four years ago and I’m very well now. Try not to worry, they will find something else x
