POLA R CHP - side effects

Further to my last post regarding my Wife's Mass in her right upper arm, she has now started treatment with POLA R CHP on the 3nd of Jan

It looks like the low grade lymphoma has progressed to high grade and they did manage to get a biopsy with a GA in December. The PET scan showed that the lymphoma had caused her humerus to weaken and she has 2 fractures which nothing can be done about. No wonder she was in such pain.

She was started with steroid treatment for 10 days prior to the commencement of the POLA treatment.

So after the first session, she was fine for the days after on Prednisolone, but then was flat out for three days - no appetite, colic and feeling very rough. The third week she picked up before the next session.

Same thing has happened this time but a bit worse after last Thursdays treatment.

Just wanted any other peoples experience of this and if this is normal.

On a good note the swelling in her arm has reduced drastically although the mass is still there and she will have t have radiotherapy after this course of treatment

Thanks

Ian

  • Hi  …… it all sounds rather normal.

The Prednisolone makes you feel like a Duracell Bunny but the cliff edge comes along once the steroids stop…… my team had me tapper them of so it reduced the cliff edge effect.

I actually found things improved slightly as my treatment went on as my body had got used to the effects…… but I refused to stay in bed even during the challenging times….. the less you do the more pronounced the effects can get…… it is counter intuitive but my CNS was very specific about this.

Great that the effectiveness of the treatment is apparent…… it is actual amazing how effective these treatment are.

  • Thanks Mike,

I have had Prednisolone many times as I have had Crohn's Disease for 40 years and they do supercharge you up - I once dug the allotment and filled it full of taties in a couple of days - paid for it later though Smiley

But I have never had the dose she has, 100mg for 5 days.

She is now hardly eating and very weak but still gets up but cant do much.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
