Multiphoma

Good morning : The PET scan in November 2023 identified a 3cms mass in the right lung but it was missed in the analysis and was only identified in the PET Scan in July 2024. It hasnt changed in size but its avidity has increased from 4 to 5.8. The original 7cms mass in the left lung appears to have been treated successfully with a twelve session radiology treatment plan.

The November 2023 Scan was reviewed and checked by the same person………….

However, my question is I have heard the expression “multiphoma” not sure whether I have spelt that correctly, but no-one will or can tell me what the incidence of this is and if anyone has had it what treatment did you have?

Thank you in advance

  • Hi again  in all my 25 years on this journey I have never seen or heard of the term 'Multiphoma'...... I sent a message to the medical writers who oversee all the material produced by Lymphoma Action and they had never heard the term.

Lymphoma in multiple areas is not that unusual...... actually more normal than not. But on the whole the treatment tends to be the same as it most likely would be some type of chemo or targeted therapy........ this is different from when a Lymphoma is localised and radiotherapy can be used.

A slow growing Low-Grade NHL like say Follicular Lymphoma can transform into a fast growing High-Grade NHL like Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma...... in this case the same treatment is often used to cover both types with the view of curing the DLBCL but the FL only going into remission as this is still seen as incurable.

Then you get folks like me who have 2 types of rare T-Cell NHLs that required 2 different-ish approaches at the same time

  • Sorry to hear of this. Could the word used have been "multiforme" - a medical term used to describe conditions which exist in various forms?
