Hi everyone - I’m new to here. I’m 36 year old mum of 3, running a busy home, business and moving house next week. Eek.
Anyway, how have people managed waiting for biopsy results. I’ve been told 6 weeks.
Ive had psoriasis for over 30 years and been under the dermatologist long term as my condition is chronic and I inject humira to treat. i have been on long term immune suppressants and became very unwell at the start of June whilst abroad.
i was given antibiotics for some type of throat infection. I then have had a major drug reaction.  This has not gone for 2 months and now bloods (always monitoring for to psoriasis treatment) are not good. They have now taken skin biopsy as I am covered in rash that is definitely not psoriasis etc. my rash varies in it’s appearance and my skin has a very itchy.
I’m worried as from what I’ve seen and read about my bloods, the rash, the drug eruption and my long term meds I am text book skin Lymphoma.
am I getting way ahead of myself here and how have you all managed to wait 6 weeks for a result!

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I was actually diagnosed way back in 1999 with my skin NHL - Cutaneous T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Mycosis Fungodes).

Skin NHLs like CTCL are rather rare and at times are very hard to diagnose so a 6 week wait for results is actually not unusual…… these samples need to be sent to specialist pathology units and even then the cancer cells may not show up. I will also say that in my first 14 years my bloods were always perfect.

It took my very experienced (although obnoxious) Dermatologist a good year, 6 separate biopsies and two CT scans to eventually get the proof although he was 99% sure as to what I had.

I was 43 then and worked in a demanding teaching job in a College on a full timetable and was having yearly 20 weeks skin treatments 2-3 times a week with UVB then PUVA…… along with a number of drugs…….. this went on for 14 years before my condition went up to Stage 4a and I was 70% covered in open bloody tumours……. and the condition had went into my bonemarrow.

So we had to move onto some big gun treatments but I am 6 years 10 months out from my last treatment and my skin is perfect…… living as normal a life that any 66 year old can live.

Happy to answer any questions ((hugs))
