Hi everyone, 8 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumour in my left lung. I was told that I would have my Lower. Left love removed ASAP which happened in 1st November. I would like to know other people’s experiences as 5 weeks on I still have pain and I am really struggling to get back to normal, not just physically but mentally too. My doctor has been fantastic but I have hit a brick wall.
Hi Siobhan
If you would like to read my profile it will tell you my story. Remember everyone is different as are our tumours, in their grade and stage.
Have you found netpatientfoundation.org.uk? It is an invaluable website specifically for NET patients, this Macmillan site is very helpful with “general” Cancer information but unfortunately not very NET active....
A couple of questions....where are you being treated? Do you have access to a NET Clinical Specialist Nurse? Did they know it was a NET before they removed it?
I would say 5 weeks it still early days for recovery from any surgery, both physically and mentally, especially as it was just a short time from diagnosis to surgery.
best wishes

Hi Wadey
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I agree with Mitzie too that five weeks is early on and I am not surprised that you are also struggling mentally too. I have a NET on my right lung and it was removed but almost a year after diagnosis as I was not supposed to have surgery. I was still struggling too after the surgery and it took me a while to recover but it should slowly improve. I would imagine you must have a follow up appointment with the surgeon soon. Please mention to him that you are struggling and he can hopefully give you some reassurance.

I have just read your profile, I’m large cell too. We have had similar Chemo but I was “inoperable”. I am now just on Lanreotide 120 but the last 6 months I have had major issues with my Endocrine system. I think we have finally established my Steroid and Thyroid regimes
best wishes
