Hi all last year on my routine scans it was picked up 3 of my nodules had grew and looking suspicious. So I had biopsy on my top left one it came back carcinoid cancer. They then tried to biopsy top right unsuccessful.so it was decided to remove top right one this was diagnosed atypical carcinoid. The middle right one is in an awkward place to biopsy. So the plan now is to stars on these injections. To either shrink or maintain them. Then next year they want to remove the top left tumor. I asked how long I would be on injections he said for life.

My question is as anyone had these injections?

  • Hi, my 96 yr old mum was diagnosed 7 yrs ago and had had an injection once a month since then. They definitely  stopped the cancer growing. The side effects are fatty stools (steatorrhoea) so she has to take Creon tablets with every meal to break down any fats.  Lanreotide prevents production of fat digesting enzymes which are normally produced by the pancreas.

Here in the UK the drug is provided by the pharmaceutical company Lloyds, and this company sends a nurse to the house each month to administer it. I use Emla numbing cream on her half hr before the injection which has helped.

Hope you get on ok x
