Hi I am new to the group and I could really do with some advice on pain relief and where do we go for help.
My dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last June, he is currently on a regime of BVD.
He is suffering from horrible debilitating leg cramps that start in the middle of the night. He has been prescribed a buprenorphine patch 5mcg and pregabalin 75mg capsule one twice daily but nothing is touching his pain.
It is awful to watch him in this much pain and not know how to help. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading
Hi Reno. Welcome to the forum.
I respond to a lot of queries on this forum. This one though is not one that I have an answer to.
Please bear in mind that this is a forum for patients and carers. Even if we know the name of a drug that can help (personally I don't), it will almost certainly be prescription only so need authorisation from a doctor (realistically: his consultant).
I suggest raising hell (if you have to) to get such a prescription from your father's consultant ASAP.
Not trying to be unhelpful: just the opposite.
All the best for your father.
Hi Reno, i have MM and also sometimes Severe Neuropothy, which is probably what the pain is, but also must be checked out and discussed with consultant in case it is something else, i take Pregablin, 50 mg morning 50 mg evening time before bed, it does help, but it is like trying to walk around with the feeling of Tight t bandages on my feet, the GP surgery may have a pain management clinic, but under the care of `a consultant they may be wary of advise, may i ask is your father " active " able to walk down the street, 100 yards or so, i find walking helps me, but the pain comes in the PM, 3- 4 o clock, i was told its a side effect of the treatment for MM.
so no answers from me really, but seek out help from the consultant Kevin AKA VespA
Thank you Vespa, for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it. I am sorry to read of your own diagnosis.
Dad was lightly active up to around 6 weeks ago and he says that walking helps too. Unfortunately not so much walking these last few weeks.
Dad’s pain is a shooting pain along both lengths of his legs and extremely cold feet. I have been in touch with his GP today and waiting on their call back.
Thanks for the reply, it really is much appreciated.
