I had a stem cell transplant at the end of August and have had to start my vaccinations again. I managed to get my first Covid before the local centre closed down and am having great difficulty finding where to get the next one. This is despite asking my hospital and health centre. Any suggestions please?

  • Have you tried the Pharmacy,   as in october a lot of the local  Chemists  here in Worcestershire      had drop in boosters,  Kevin

  • Hi , you could try asking your specialist nurse she may have come across this before and have contacts she can ask .Good luck

  • Thanks Kevin, we have two local pharmacies listed on the NHS website but one has stopped doing them and we're off to see the other one this morning

  • Thanks Cakie, good suggestion, will try that

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the group. I don’t have Myeloma but I have had 2 Allo (donor) Stem Cell Transplants for my rare type of Lymphoma although these were done pre Covid.

It looks like accessing new or re-cOvid vaccines post SCT is a postcode lottery.

I am in the Highlands if Scotland and we sill have vaccine centres and a phone call to a centre gets folks into the system.

You have been give some good suggestions so let’s see if you can make headway.

We do have a dedicated Stem Cell Transplant support group so you may want to put up your question in there as well.

We also have our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

  • Thanks Highlander, yes you're right about the lottery. Both pharmacies here in Brighton have stopped so will continue via the specialist nurses.
