Questions - supplements contraindicated in myeloma - bone marrow cancer
Questions:
1. What food additives or other incl. of plant origin can be used in combination with chemotherapy and subsequent planned autogenous brain stem cell transplantation;
2. Is it possible in a specific case of the disease - myeloma - to use Fenbendazole in parallel with chemotherapy?

  • Hi and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

    I don’t have Myeloma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade NHL eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well especially as I have had two Allo (Donor) Stem Cell Transplants (SCT)

     When it comes to supplements and alternative therapies no one on these groups are in any way qualified to give you advice….. these questions must go to your clinical team.

    There are known interactions with chemotherapy when supplements and alternative therapy are used and can reduce the effectiveness of treatments.

    When it comes to SCT your body goes through a very delicate balance of drug effectiveness and interaction with your bone marrow all in the hope of achieving a good transplant…. you don’t want to upset the balance in any way.

    We do actually have a dedicated Stem cell transplant support group where you can talk with others who have navigated the SCT journey.

    Always around to chat and help.
