I'm 47 and live in the Forest of Bowland near Lancaster hence the 'Bowlander' username.

Diagnosis came out of the blue from bloods last week after getting X rayed for long standing back pain in November.

Feeling well other than the back pain from 2 wedge fractures and am quite positive at the moment after a horrible few days coming to terms with things.

  • Hi Bowlander

it takes some getting your head around doesn’t it!! I was diagnosed in June last year. It’s horrid. How are you feeling now? Have you started any treatment yet? X

  • Hello Bowlander

I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis . I hope you take time to come to terms with it and have someone who you can talk to.

I started treatment in September and have just completed 4 cycles .The team at the hospital where I attend have been brilliant ,especially the Nurse Specialists who have been my first point of call to help me get through the last few months .I hope you find the same where you live .

Take care and try to remain posative   .

  • Thanks for the reply.  Going through treatment options with consultant tomorrow.

Feeling good at the moment apart from a sore hip and back, and fatigue when I've done too much.

Definitely trying to stay positive, was having dark thoughts in the middle of the night for the first few days but found a Michael Moseley podcast recommending listing what you are thankful for and it worked really well.

  • Thanks Callie, the team at Lancaster are brilliant and have given me a number to call.  My wife is chivvying me along when I'm low and making sure I rest enough.

  • Hi again, great tip for the podcast! Let me know how you get on you may be on same treatment as I was if I can help or support you and your wife please don’t hesitate to message it can be a lonely world at times as we take the cancer journey x

  • Hi. I am also 47 and diagnosed  in October.  I am now on cycle 3 of treatment.  Its been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for me. I hope your treatment goes well. You will have good days and bad  but persevere.  Good luck.

  • Thanks Sunshine, I think getting the first treatment out the way will put me at ease. Starting on Thursday.Fingers crossed
