Hi There, I have just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, up until 4 weeks ago I had never heard of it, now it is constantly in my head!  I am 47 years old and run my own business as a Pilates teacher.  I had been experiencing pain on and off for a while,  having some days where I would be absolutely fine then days when I could hardly move.  To be honest I was thinking it was menopausal and maybe just doing too much.  So this has come as a complete shock (as I am sure it does for every single one of us)  So i have had my MRI and bone marrow biopsy and have had it confirmed as Myeloma.  I have been referred to the spinal unit to review my images as there is plasmacytoma on vertebra T6.  Hopefully I will start VCD in the next two weeks.  So life is now completely different to how it was 6 weeks ago, i am worried about the treatment and worried about how my business is going to survive!  Having had a quick look at benefits and financial help I seem to slip through every crack. Lots of unanswered questions at the moment but I guess things will become more clear when I have actually met my consultant and had a face to face with him.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear of your news.  In view of your age and fitness they'll probably get hit quite hard, and you'll probably undergo a SCT.  I've mostly recovered from both and am back to exercising whilst avoiding anything high impact.  Personally I'd imagine that pilates would be ok but you might struggle at times during the first few months.  For me staying positive is my best weapon, that of course and the excellent treatment you'll no doubt receive.  Support from friends and family is vital.  Best wishes.  Rob.
