Hello
3weeks ago my mum was told her blood count from the week before was 81 (8.1) so I knew it was going to of been even lower as it was a week later so the next Wednesday had bloods done again and was 62, two days later had 2 litres of blood repeated bloods the next Wednesday and was still 62 so 2 days later 2 more bags of blood that was last Friday and bloods today are 53!! Where is the blood going??? has this happened to anyone else?? they are saying not to worry as it can just take time to get on top of things. She's had multiple myeloma for nearly 4 years and 3 weeks ago was put back on cyclophosphamide to try help her blood count and see if made protein lower if was at 42
Thanks
Hi Lauraxx sorry to hear this.….. it’s all about kick starting the bone marrow to do it’s job…… without her having blood transfusions her counts would be even lower…. As you know I have a different type of blood cancer but a number of months after my second Stem Cell Transplant my blood counts was like your mum’s so I was having blood transfusions every week for about 4 months and also daily G-CSF Injections…… and then out if the blue my bonemarrow got back into action. I do hope that your mum gets back on a positive road to recovery soon.
Thank you for your reply fingers crossed todays transfusion makes her numbers go up at least a little
Did you get told as to where the blood goes? How can 2 bags of blood and more dissappear in less then a week?
The blood circulates around the body and the renal system, specifically the kidneys is primarily responsible for regulating the blood....... I think at a simple level...... the body is like a car engine, like oil, the body uses up the blood when the body is being put through hard times so it needs to be topped up just like the oil in the engine.
When I was having the weekly transfusions I was going to the toilet more..... my consultant said that was because my kidneys were doing their job.
