My husband has multiple myeloma and had a stem cell transplant 2years coming may.he is quite well at present.i wanted to know if I have to self isolate as he comes under high risk.as his carer I can't seem to find anything about it thank you x
The guidance for Carers is that you don’t need to follow the self-isolation guidance yourself, but if you do decide to go out, you would then need to shield from him within the house. There are some good frequently asked questions in the Myeloma UK website which cover this specific topic.
Hi Greg thanks for your reply.i work in retail so go out 3 days a week for 4 hours a day.i know you said that I wouldn't have to isolate and keep away from him.i got no protection when I out in retail even though I wear protection my self.he is high risk so I thought I would have to self isolate to protect him x
I am by no means a medical expert so definitely best to check with your husband’s medical team if you are unsure. From what I’ve read, the idea is that they want people living with those who are high risk still going out as the government hasn’t got the means to support those households. The person who is then high risk has to isolate themselves within the house. It is quite brutal, but I suppose they are just taking drastic measures for difficult times.
Ultimately, I think everyone has to make the decisions that are right for them, but in terms of official guidance, I would expect that they’ll still want you to go out rather than stay home with your husband.
I think we’re all going to need a lot of strength through these tough times.
Thanks Gregg, it,s a unreal situation because i work as a cashier in a supermarket the likelyhood of me picking up the virus is real., so i will take the hit and quit....thank you Kimmyth.
It is definitely strange times we’re living in. I am not currently shielding from my wife and kids but none of us have been out for almost 2 weeks so we’re pretty confident we don’t have the virus so there is no need for me to shield. I think everyone is going to have to make the decisions that are right for them, but it doesn’t look like life is going to be normal for a while yet unfortunately.
