Hi everyone.
I was diagnosed with Myeloma last December, but as it was early stages I haven't had any treatment. With everything that is going on right now, I don't know if I need to self isolate or what?? Any ideas?? What I've read says if you are having treatment as your immune system goes right down. But does it count the same for me as I have Myeloma??
I'm a bit confused with it all, help!!!
Thank you all in advance
Kerry xx
Hi Kezzie,
I am sorry to be the one to say this to you but if you’ve been diagnosed with myeloma, you are unfortunately in the extremely vulnerable group and need to shield for the next 12 weeks. Unfortunately ALL myeloma patients, regardless of stage, regardless of treatment and regardless of remission are at severe risk of significant consequences if we catch the virus. I am 4 years in remission and I got the text from NHS this afternoon.
These are going to be tough times ahead, hopefully we can all use this space to try to keep ourselves sane for the months ahead.
All the best,
Greg
Hi Kezzie
Just thought I would send you my best wishes. It's hard enough coming to terms with a diagnosis of myeloma and all the uncertainties that entails but to realise that it puts you in the most vulnerable category in this Corona crisis must come as a terrible blow.
As I understand it all myeloma patients will be contacted by the NHS over the next few days to explain how we shield ourselves for the next 12 weeks.
I'm trying not fo look too far ahead or to look at a calendar!
These are dark days indeed for everyone. I'm still struggling with the enormous shock of it all.
Can only hope that the measures work and the wonderful NHS can cope.
Best wishes
Sue
