Hi All, thanks for letting my join the group. I’m 53 and “fit and well” and after attending the GPs for another minor health problem had an incidental findings of a raised Kappa which resulted in an urgent haematology referral and usual myeloma screen which confirmed myeloma and no boney lesions on MRI. I have another blood count due on 25th as they’re concerned my HB has dropped in the last 4 weeks and told me they’d start treatment straight away if it had but if it hasn’t it’s up to me when I start as there’s limited evidence that treating asymptomatic is beneficial. I’ve got 2 questions if anyone is able to help:
1 has anyone started treatment without symptoms being present and
2 I want to get a tattoo and have heard that it’s best to wait 12 months after chemo to get it but wondered if there was any restriction to get it done before?
thanks in advance
Dear
i can’t help with the tattoo query but I wanted to send you this link from myeloma uk which explains fully the issues around asymptomatic
or smouldering myeloma as it is more commonly known these days. It’s the most reliable information you can get in the uk and should help you prepare for your next visit with your consultant.
im glad to hear you are currently in good health, if you do have to start treatment there is lots to be hopeful about as treatments are the most successful they have ever been.
