Wondering if Myeloma?

Hi,

Looking for any advice/feedback.  I'm due to have a Bone Marrow Biopsy, full body MRI/skeletal survey and a number of blood tests (all from what I can tell possibly looking for myeloma).  I've had a slew of odd blood tests for a number of years (early on false positive results for Lyme Disease, Lupus Anticoagulant, etc.) and pain in hip for a few years but not unbearable until recently (have had a few occasions where there was really sudden pain that sidelined me for a few days laying on couch with water bottles, etc).  In the last 3-4 years, my GP has been monitoring my blood tests as I showed an elevated ESR, low RBC and elevated MCV/MCH and have now been seeing a heamatologist for the last year or so.

My IgM level over the last year has been slightly elevated 3.68, continued low RBC, high MCV/MCH as well as low Albumin Calcium, low Alpha 2 globulin and low Beta 1 & 2 globulin.  All other levels on tests appear normal.

Looking up all the tests as well as some of my levels, I'm a bit nervous and more so waiting to have these new tests done (and then waiting for results) is really nerve wracking.  Appreciate anyone's insight/advice on all of this Slight smile

Thanks

  • Hi Datmac,

Welcome to the forum, although I’m really sorry for the reason you are here.

I am not a medical expert but I can understand why they are doing the tests for myeloma, a lot of the things you list can be symptoms of myeloma - low RBC, bone pain, low albumin.

The best advice I can give you right now is to just wait and see and to try and switch your mind off from it. The results could be due to a number of things, and even if it is myeloma, a delay before starting treatment won’t have a big impact. But I’m definitely hoping it’s not myeloma, and you can get a much more innocent explanation for what’s going on for you at the moment.
