I lost my Dad to mesothelioma on 8 May 2026. I am struggling to accept it. Dad was too ill to have a biopsy when alive so a post mortem had to be performed. It is nearly 6 months since I lost him and I am still waiting for the report from the coroner to confirm the cause of death. It is causing me so much distress. I just need some closure. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi Caz1
It’s Wayne here from Macmillan’s Online Community team. I saw your post and wanted to offer some support whilst you are waiting for other group members to reply.
I firstly want to say how sorry I am to hear of your dad’s passing. It’s understandable to hear how difficult it is for you when you are still waiting for the report from the coroner. Please know that Macmillan will continue to be here for you to navigate your way through this.
It’s natural to experience a range of emotions when coping with the loss of a loved one and I hope you’ll find some comfort from being a part of our Community. Please know that we also have the Bereaved family and friends forum - which is an online support group for anyone who has lost a family member or loved one to cancer to share their feelings and support one another.
If you would rather speak to someone directly, we have our Macmillan Support Line when you want to talk things through with someone for advice, emotional support or even just a listening ear. Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00. If you would rather speak to them via message, you can also do so on our live webchat.
If you think accessing some specialist bereavement support would be helpful, there lots of useful information in Macmillan’s ‘coping with bereavement’ booklet. It includes details of other specialist organisations trained to support people with their grief such as Cruse bereavement care.
They have a free confidential helpline where you can pick up the phone and speak to their team of trained bereavement volunteers on their helpline by calling 0808 808 1677. You can click here for their opening times.
I hope the above information is helpful. If you need any assistance using the Online Community or need some additional support, please don’t hesitate to email Community@macmillan.org.uk or send a private message to the moderator account.
Best Wishes,
Wayne
