Hi, I’ve found reading this forum really useful. I’ve got stage 1a melonoma in my right thigh. Had my WLE on Tuesday and today I’m starting to feel less sore. I had 16 stitches so I’m quite nervous about going too much. What would anyone suggest about walking distance and how soon and also thoughts on a short flight 2 weeks post surgery? Thank you
Hello Freshie
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying your post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the Melanoma group.
It may be a good idea to ask your question about walking and flying to one of our cancer nurses and here' the link you need:
I hope the above helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Freshie and a very warm welcome to our little corner of the online community.
Like you, I had a WLE after being diagnosed with melanoma but mine was in my arm so didn't cause any problems with walking. There are lots of people in the group who've had a WLE on their thigh and the most recent posters include Jenny Elizabeth75da32 and Jasonjgg123 so I've 'tagged' them into my reply to you and hope they'll pop on and share their experiences with you.
As for whether it's a good idea to fly just a couple of weeks after surgery, the best person to ask would be your SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist).
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

PS. If you haven't already, don't forget that your travel insurer will need to know about your diagnosis.
I had my WLE on my thigh. I could only really walk short distances in the first couple of weeks but was fine after that. I just took it slow and steady and listened to my body ️
Thanks Jenny. It’s 2 weeks today and I’ve been trying to walk for about 30 minutes the last few days but it’s very sore afterwards, so I guess it’s just trial and error.
Thanks Anne, I’ll do that. Also I decided not to fly. My surgeon said it was ok but my leg isn’t strong enough yet so I guess it’s just very individual. I’ll update my profile now.
