Hi I'm new to the forum. I had surgery Monday to remove a possible melanoma and I am waiting for the results. I have had the thing on my back for well over 15 years I didn't give it any thought or have been worried about it. For some reason I asked my wife to take a photo of it I didn't like the look of it and then I spent a bit of time to search up on doctor Google and ended up worried sick . Then after a few more days I ended up going to the doctors. 3 weeks later I have had it cut out. It was about the size of a thumb nail but not raised just looked like a birthmark but It was several colours and a funny shape with blurred edges but no broken skin. I asked the surgeon what he thought about it he said it looked a bit nasty and it needed to be removed I have been trying to keep busy with work but I am now waiting for the result from the surgery.
Waiting is hard....
Hopefully, you will get the results soon and can then have a plan for the way forward...
Do you have a cancer nurse? Maybe give them a call to see if the results are back and move the next appointment with the consultant forward...
Thanks for the reply I am in the military so I just have to wait until I get a letter from the hospital. I will chase it up if I haven't heard anything from the hospital when I get the stitches out a week Monday. I will try to bypass the med centre as it does take longer than a normal GP.
Just reaching out to wish the very best for your results. I had Malignant Melanoma on my leg 4 years ago, aged 42 at the time, and also had a Basel cell on my chest this year.
As already mentioned the wait is definitely the hardest part. Hopefully it is something that is benign, but if it is something a bit more serious please be assured that there are plenty of us here willing to chat and share anything that may help.
The very best of wishes to you
I have had my results today it has been confirmed that I have stage 1a with a breslow depth of 0.5mm. I have got to have another op to take a wider margin around it. Hopefully that will be the end of it.
So sorry to hear that. Hope it will be the end of it
Sending best wishes to you. Please keep chatting on here if you feel you need any moral support. I kept everything to myself which did me no good.
Hopefully you can get your op over and done with soon.
Again, the very best of wishes to you
Hello, I am new here too. Last year I was in your position, a melanoma in situ and then a further wider excision advised as a precaution I felt obliged to accept (even on my face!). That area is absolutely clear with a very small scar, barely noticeable. I agree ... the waiting is hard but statistically you are in a very good position, caught early and the wider excision is a sensible precaution. (I now have a little spot on the other cheek which is 1B (Breslow 1.1) and they are advising a WE which, they say again, is an essential precaution. It's so worrying, I agree, but even this 1B has statistically many reasons to be hopeful. Your 1A, caught early, I feel sure will be fine and the end of it! I truly wish you the best. You are not alone!)
Hi thanks for the support. I am hoping all is ok. The waiting was definitely the hardest thing. I have had it removed hopefully just have to have the next op as a precaution. Before I went to the doctors I was in two minds wether to bother thinking I may have been overthinking it at the time. It goes to show to trust your instincts sometimes.
