Hello I have very recently been diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma after finding a lump in my armpit in early August. After going referred to the breast clinic and having biopsy’s I was told it was stage 3 melanoma.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I had a CT scan last Saturday and the results 3 days later to say it hadn’t spread. I also got told I have the BRAF gene and I have no primary site (MUP).

I’m now waiting to see a plastic surgeon on Monday to discuss clearance or dissection (I think I’m a bit confused with what’s what) and then I will have a course of immunotherapy to mop up any rouge cells. It’s all sounds is simple but I’m thinking it’s not and I’m being very naive.

I guess I have lots of questions but firstly, anyone else out there MUP? And secondly I’ve don’t really know what it means to have the BRAF gene, if anyone can help there that would be good.

I’ve been tearful on and off and sleep has gone out of the window but overall I’m feeling really positive and life has gone on as normal, young kids help me do that.

Look forward to chatting with some of you.

  • Hi I have stage 3a melanoma with the braf gene. 50 percent of melanoma are braf positive. It explains more on melanoma  focus. I was on dabrafenib and trametinib drugs but only did 4 months due to side affects and found thyroid cancer which has been sorted now. Don't think I'm going back on drugs for now. I will be on surveillance scans if I don't go back on them.

  • Hello, thanks for your reply.  have had a look but I think I need to go Jack and read some more.  As I said just at the start of my journey so got a lot to learn about what’s in store for me.

  • There are other people story's on melanoma focus. I was really worried at start, I was looking on all the wrong sites when I was diagnosed as I was not told much at start. Then I was called for ct scans and mri scan and did not have a clue why.  But now it does not seem so bad and there is a lot of treatments.
