Hi was recently diagnosed with ALM and had my 1st op to remove the tumour on my foot. This has meant I can't wear shoes so living in flip-flops and crocs. I thought I was okay until today when I was told I couldnt wear crocs on the gym floor at a Nuffield gym.
I left feeling angry and while I understand that they didn't know my reason and that they have to make sure people are acting responsibly in the gym, I found myself just braking down and crying this afternoon.
I can get out and about a bit and drive locally but going to gym was helping both keep me active physically and mentally.
I never thought I could get so upset over something that just seems so trivial
Hi WingNut and a very warm welcome to the melanoma forum which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I totally understand why you feel upset about not being able to use the gym and it's certainly not trivial. I think we've all experienced things which have suddenly made us realise that we can no longer do something we love because of a cancer diagnosis. Hopefully your absence from the gym will be a temporary thing.
Do you think it would help if your spoke to the manager at the gym to find out if there's any way you can safely use the gym while your foot recovers? I don't know if this is helpful or not, as my melanoma was on my arm not my foot, but it was just a thought.
Will you be having any further treatment?
