Good afternoon,

I have recently been diagnosed with pt1a invasive melanoma. Does invasive mean it could have spread? It is only 0.3MM depth but as it is on my leg apparently the skin is not as thick there?  I have an appointment this week with my specialist so I will know more then. But just after any advice? I don’t think I have swollen lymph node anywhere, I do have a few of the symptoms of lymphoma though?
many thanks Relaxed️

  • Hi there, unsure what they mean by invasive? I would have thought invasive would have meant a more advanced melanoma? Last month I was diagnosed with melanoma PT1a which the lesion had been on my back and was measured at 0.57mm, this was removed during the first surgery which I underwent last January at the begining of the year. Yesterday I underwent a wider excision to remove a wider margin of healthy skin leaving me with 14 stitches which is quite sore at the moment.

  • Oh no I hope you are feeling better soon, I think this will be what I have done next but mine is on my leg. Yes it is confusing that 1a says it can’t have spread but invasive means it could. Hopefully get some better clarity after my appointment with the specialist. Take care and thank you for your reply

  • Hopefully all will go well with you. T1a from what I was told by my dermatologist and cancer nurse that it was an early stage of melanoma which usually has a good outcome meaning its treatable and curable. However I was advised by both my specialist team and nurse that I would have to take precautions from now on when going outside, like covering up, applying factor 50 sun cream etc... I will also be under the observation of the specialist team for 1 year before being discharged.

I hope and trust all goes well for you and that you won't have too much problems.

  • Hello,

I hope that your appointment goes well this week Slight smile

My understanding is that stage 0 is on the surface of the skin and all other stages (from 1a) and considered to be invasive (as they are penetrating the skin). I agree that the word invasive is quite scary.

O.3mm in depth is considered to be a thin melanoma (which is good) and usually only treatment needed is removal with margins and then monitoring.

Hoping for a great outcome for you.
