Last Thursday I was diagnosed with stage 1b melanoma just waiting for an appointment for WLE & SLNB I'm a little nervous in case they find that the cancer has spread but I keep telling myself I'll be ok, I'm worried if it's bad news how will I tell my kids,  I have 2 children with autism and 2 young babies ♡ I have no mummy friends what so ever so feel abit lonely Cry

  • Hi, I am booked in for everything on the 30th August. Diagnosed a week ago. I have the exact same fear so believe me you are not alone. I have a son who is 16 the day before my procedures. I think it's only natural to feel terrified/scared/angry and every other emotion. Please take help from your hospital's support team as it helps to talk - cliché I know. I saw a therapist yesterday who I am seeing again next week and I am booked I for a reiki session. Xx

  • Hello, It's ok to be nervous and worried, that's only natural. Try to distract your mind as best you can.

I'm two months further down the line than yoi. I was diagnosed on the 28th June and today the15th Aug had my WLE and SLNB at the RVI the staff and surgeon were soo lovely. I went in at 8am, discharged at 15:30! With lots of meds and sexy stockings (not) So next is occupying my own mind til my results are known, then I can worry or celebrate.

Your children will be more resilient than you think, I'm sure.  Guessing you aren't saying anything until you know yourself? There will be support for you I'm sure, and these forums are a godsend. Ask any questions.

It helps if you haven't already, to add a blurb to your profile. Let's people read your journey so far and anyone else in the same situation can help you more. Please stay strong, look after yourself and try to do some nice things for yourself. X

  • Thank you so much for your reply ♡ I'm not scared of the operation just the outcome I guess,my melamona was found in a mole on side of my face so not looking forward to having a second operation as got a feeling ill end up with a skin graft ♡ yes I'm awaiting for next results don't want them to worry them thanks again for the replies Grinning

  • I'm a Stage IV -- wish I was only a Stage 1b though!

You're very lucky, the prognosis for Stage 1 cases are very good. You've got an excellent recovery probability. Google the NHS melanoma sites, they're very helpful.

Treatment is very good for Stages I and II -- not quite as good for III but still not too bad. Speak to your Specialist Macmillan Nurse. They have a lot of experience and will give you a lot of help.

    Think positive. Good luck!

  • Hi Lisa how are you?

I was diagnosed with stage 1B melanoma around the same time. It's so scary isn't it. Have you decided on the WLE and SLNB?

  • Sorry I meant have you heard anything about the WLE and SLNB

  • I’m so sorry to hear your going through the same, you are more than welcome to drop me a message and I’ll always get back to you if you need someone to talk too ,I’m still awaiting for appointment to come through, my skin cancer nurse said she’s going to chase it up as I should of heard something by now, I just want to get it out the way now and focus on the next bit, remember to stay strong we can all fight this together x
