Hi,my dad is currently having immunotherapy treatment and is responding really well so far.

After speaking with the hospital my parents have decided to book a holiday. The problem they are having is getting insurance. The quotes they have got so far is £2000 and that's just for my dad.

Has anyone having the same treatment ever got travel insurance for less?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which i hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

That's great to read that your dad is responding well to the immunotherapy and a holiday sounds like a lovely idea.

Unfortunately, as your parents have found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis so can I recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find recommendations from others who have been successful. Once you've joined look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance' as this is where the majority of recommendations are.

It has been recommended in the past to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

  • Hi,thank you so much for your reply,I'll head on over to that group. My mum has spent most of today on the phone to different companies but not had much look.

  • Has your mum tried goodtogoinsurance.com or payingtoomuch.com? I've used both of these and found them to be reasonably priced. However, I'd finished my treatment at the time of taking out the insurance.

  • I'm not sure but I will certainly pass on the details.I hope they manage to get something sorted as they definitely need to get away, especially my mum.

My dad also has Dementia so all our focus is obviously on him but I've no idea what all this is doing to my mum's health.I help out as much as I can but it's my mum who's there 24/7

  • Good Morning

I am currently into my 2nd year of immunotherapy.  Last year when I went on holiday I obtained insurance through insurancewith they were very reasonable.  At the cancer centre / treatment suite if he asks they can usually supply a list of insurers specific to cancer.  I do have a copy at home if you wanted me to screen shot it and send in a message.
