Melanoma on sole of foot

Evening! Hoping someone here can offer some insight…

A couple of weeks ago I had a “freckle” excised on the sole of my foot (near, but not on a weight bearing area). It was confirmed as a superficial spreading melanoma which I think both myself and my dermatologist were quite shocked about as it’s quite an unusual place (and I’m not fair skinned!). It was stage 1a.

the dermatologist offered the wide level excision himself but I expressed some concern about a 3 x 2.5 hole on the base of my foot and I’ve now been referred onto my plastics, who will presumably offer flap or graft surgery (this terminology is not new on me - I’ve had a preventative mastectomy and reconstruction!).

has anyone had a growth somewhere similar and can ad use me on potential hospital stay (day case?!) and recovery times. I’m Paranoid I’ll spend 2 weeks plus with my foot in the air! I’m not someone to sit still…

thank you so much xxx

  • Ah that sounds very promising indeed. How are you feeling about it?

Well done on having what can't have been an easy conversation with the surgeon. One step closer to this being over for you! I'm glad to hear the op will happen soonish. Fingers crossed it will be a smooth journey from here and that you'll be back on your feet (literally) in no time at all.

I remember that I wore a loose skirt on the day itself and that was probably the best decision I made on that day, because by the time I got home, I definitely didn't feel like having to navigate pants around both wounds and bulky bandages. It was definitely distressing at the time, but I can chuckle at it now.

I am fine. I chatted with the surgeon for 35 minutes. Not sure any stone was left unturned; though, in his diligence, he checked my lymph nodes and advised on how to spot metastatic spread and that caused some anxiety! Just want it over with now, as I’m planning on having my ovaries out in the next 6 months (preventative measure), and this is just an awkward blip x

  • Hi

i had a 10cm graft on heel - can’t believe you can get melanoma on your heel can you? Had it done in February and the graft took well. I do have a chunk out but not to affect walking. I was having dressing changes for a couple of months twice a week. Must admit I don’t like touching the wound as it feels weird and numb in parts.
My problem now is they said they had removed all the cancer but turns out not quite and having to have lymph node removal shortly- dreading it

once the graft has healed then keep moving

    good luck
