I had a melanoma in situ removed some years ago. This year I've had a skin lesion and head cyst removed, both benign, but its triggered more paranoia about UV than when I had the melanoma.
I am finding it really hard in low light and dull days to remember to cover up my scars especially the recent one on my head. I need to remember a hat all the time and sometimes if we are running late for school or something I just forget.
Does anyone know if low UV, ie 1 or under, on a November morning in the UK really matters for 5-10 min on scars?
I dont wear sunscreen in the UK in winter unless out for hours, but am panicky about the scars. (Should add I have read the main scar risk is hyper pigmentation, couldnt care less about that, only if it increases skin cancer risk)
Hi Ele76
I don't know how much it matters if your scars are exposed to UV in November as mine are on my arm so not exposed at that time of the year anyway.
When I was diagnosed with melanoma I was told to keep covered between the months of April to October inclusive in the UK and at all times in other areas of the world.
I have to admit that in the summer I don't worry too much if I'm just popping outside for 5minutes, but I do tend to grab my hat as a matter of course anyway.
Anne
