Stage 4 - lumps on legs

Hi everyone,

I've not posted here in a while, but my mum has stage 4 melanoma and has lived with it since October 2023. She's doing really well, working and doing all her old hobbies - you would never be able to tell that she has cancer.

Today we noticed that there are these weird lumps on the back of her legs. She had them a couple of years ago when the cancer was spreading and then they disappeared after the immunotherapy kicked in, so we're obviously really worried that this is a sign of progression. She did have a PET in April that said all her tumours are stable or shrinking.

We've already been onto the lovely specialist nurses who are forwarding the pictures to my mum's consultant, but I was just wondering if anyone with experience of stage four has had a similar thing. We never had it confirmed that those weird lumps were melanoma and the timing could've been a coincidence.

It's going to be a stressful few days while we wait to hear back from Mum's consultant, but this journey is never easy.

Pip

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that you and your mum have this new worry.

I don't have any relevant experience to share but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.

Let us know how your mum gets on when she speaks to/sees her consultant.

Keeping everything crossed for her Fingers crossed

  • Thanks, Latchbrook.

That's really kind of you. We've heard back from the consultant already, and for now she just wants us to keep an eye on the lumps and get back in touch if they grow any bigger or change colour or bleed. They're going to extend my mum's next routine scan to include her legs as well.

Fingers crossed it'll turn out to be one of those things that's unrelated to cancer.

  • That all sounds positive
