Hi all, best wishes to you all. I left the forum about 5 years ago, bought a motorbike and slowly forgot about melanoma. Then 8weeks ago I found a lump near the WLE scar and now find myself needing to chat, it is not something I want to discuss with friends and family at this point so I hope you don't mind me sharing some thoughts.
I had a small lump (7mm) removed a few weeks ago. It was about 10cm from the WLE scar, fairly mobile but not well circumscribed. Two weeks later I was contacted by the consultant to advise that it appeared to be a myxoma (a benign tumor), no melanin detected, but an unusual location so the biopsy has been sent to a soft tissue expert with their review expected in 2 - 6 weeks.
Hopefully that remains the diagnosis, but now I am into week three of waiting for a final conclusion and I find myself starting to wonder. Seeking insights on the internet proved limited as there is very little about cutaneous myxoma out there, but I did come across something called myxoid melanoma. All the advice is not to search the internet for answers and finding that form of melanoma is why, all I achieved was finding something to feed anxiety. The questions grow, what's the chances of a rare form of a rare tumor in a rare location, that just happens to pop up so close to the melanoma scar.
I have no idea how common it is for the initial biopsy results to change after review. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Thanks for listening.

Hi Retro and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is just as informative and supportive place to be as it was last time.
I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier for others to see.
I have done a search for previous posts which mention myxoma but drew a blank I'm afraid. Of course that doesn't mean than no one else has had one, they may just not have posted about it.
Waiting for results can be a very stressful time and I would caution against too much googling as you can end up down rabbit holes which just feed your anxiety. Hopefully, you won't have too much longer to wait for your results.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I received the letter from my consultant detailing the specialist pathologists findings. The bottom line is that there was no evidence of metastatic disease.
The report was very detailed and listed all of the stains used, nothing concerning. The specialist considered melanoma and mixofibrosarcoma, giving reasons against these. It stated overall features were in keeping with myxoma, but highlighted the unusual location and lack of stromal neutrophils were against that possibility.
Due to the unusual diagnosis I have been advised to have 3 monthly check ups for two years.
I will add this to my profile in case it is of help to others, but I get the feeling this is a pretty unique situation. It may perhaps offer hope to those that find a lump near their WLE scar.
