Hi all – my daughter had a mole excised over a month ago and sent for biopsy to check for melanoma. She has been told results will be in 8 to 10 weeks. Are results really taking that long currently? Or if melanoma should she hear much sooner – within 5 or 6 weeks say?
When I had moles removed (have had several severely dysplastic) I recollect my results coming through by letter sooner (though it was probably 12 weeks before I had appointment with consultant to discuss WLE).
Does such a long delay mean it is simply a routine not urgent biopsy and can take comfort unlikely to be melanoma?
My mother had a full lymph node dissection recently and she was told the waiting time for the results was twelve weeks. We heard a fortnight later (and not because it was terrible news or anything; it was actually as good as it could be). So hopefully you won't have to wait as long as 8 to 10 weeks.
Letter through post stating 95%melanoma still awaiting biopsies stating findings such as blue veil signs and black dots ll not generally associated with stage 1 melanoma. Have back pain ect and no one seems to want to help. Not feeling optimistic . Gut tells me its everywhere
Hi Dawn – sorry you have the agony of a wait and unclear findings. It is so easy for our minds to go to worst places but try and stay upbeat. There are lots of new treatments for melanoma nowadays.
No news for my daughter yet, but she is adamant they took a deep chunk, much deeper than she was expecting.
Hi there
After nearly eight weeks of waiting, my biopsy results finally arrived in the post and am pleased to say that my lesion was benign. To say that I am relieved is an understatement, but I also feel incredibly lucky. Waiting for results for such a long time is such a cruel test of endurance. This has been a wake-up call for me. I am 54 years old and have many moles and freckles. I have decided that in much the same way as I have a dental check-up every 6 months, I will also be booking appointments with a Private Dermatologist for a skin check. For those of you still waiting for biopsy results, please do not give up hope. Both my GP and the Dermatologist who examined the photos thought it was a melanoma. The lesion resembled a blister and I was convinced it was Nodular, and Stage 3. It proves that nothing is certain until you receive those biopsy results. Good luck to everyone and sending lots of love. xx
Hi ellblanche
Thanks so much for posting. Delighted to hear you got good news.
I have to do monthly skin checks (had four dysplastic nevi already, including several severely dysplastic).
Also, one of my daughters already got a dysplastic lesion and now another daughter is waiting on results. I come from a melanoma family (FAMMM syndrome), which adds to the anxiety. I find waiting for results really hard.
I will take heart from your benign result. Thank you so much for the update.
Sending love back and good luck for all your follow-up skin checks. xx
Good news for us too – just a dysplastic lesion. Phew! xx
