Good evening

I hope you are all keeping well .I am going on holiday in august and wondered if anyone had any advice on where to buy some sun protective clothing ?

Thank you

  • I used a couple of places solabri and also sun protection clothing at  https://sunprotectionclothing.co.uk these two are probably the best for UV clothing.

  • I buy from Solbari but goods come from Australia. I've have purchased 4 pairs of 'sleeves' over the last 24 months but naturally it depends where your melonoma is. Mine is at top of right arm.  Enjoy your holiday.

  • if you wanted a mid range price but same quality then i would recommend sun protection clothing. https://sunprotectionclothing.co.uk

  • I used 2 companies which were great as i play alot of golf and sit in the sun

  • I found it difficult to find sun protection clothes which weren’t old fashioned and found a great company. I ordered some wide leg pants (very fashionable) and a great jacket. Took a while for them to arrive but will definitely be ordering from there in the future

  • I completely understand why you’re looking into sun protective clothing. After dealing with melanoma (or even just the worry that comes with it), being in the sun can suddenly feel very different.

From my experience, UPF clothing has honestly made holidays and time outdoors feel much less stressful. I still use sunscreen of course, especially on exposed areas, but having physical protection gives me much more peace of mind because you’re not constantly wondering whether sunscreen has rubbed off or needs reapplying again.

I think the biggest thing is finding clothes that you’ll actually feel comfortable wearing. Some of the more “technical” options can feel quite clinical or very outdoorsy, which isn’t for everyone. Hats, lightweight long sleeves, swim cover-ups and UV swimwear can all help without making you feel like you have to completely stop enjoying life.

I’ve had really good experience with Rodasoleil UV swimwear in particular. I found it comfortable, easy to wear for beach or pool days, and reassuring from a sun protection point of view without feeling overly restrictive or heavy in hot weather.

For me it’s become more about managing sun exposure sensibly rather than avoiding life completely — shade when possible, good sunscreen, UPF clothing, hats, and trying not to get caught out in strong sun. It took a while, but eventually it started to feel normal again.

Hope you find something that works for you and helps you feel more confident about your holiday

  • I have found the Solbari sun protection umbrella very useful. I don’t like wearing hats but love the umbrella. I purchased it from Amazon and they have a choice of designs and colours. I did buy a Solbari bucket style hat and it’s really nice and light but gives good protection but I much prefer the brolly!

Amazon have a good range of Solbari clothes, hats etc and the delivery is quicker than ordering from Solbari directly.

  • I also have discovered some great long sleeved t shirts. Lovely and cool with UV protection, They look fashionable and I wear them with wide leg pants and jeans. Found them on Amazon - search rash vests. Bought a few £ 20 approx, very versatile
