Hi
Does anyone have any experience with putting uva protective film on car windows. I’m looking for a supplier near Milton Keynes or London to fit it on my car? Got melanoma stage 3 and need to urgently get it done. Any help much appreciated.
Best regards
Hi Mbl19700
I haven't heard of anyone putting this film on car windows and wondered if this was something you'd been advised to have applied to your car?
Replying to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen by someone who may have experience with this.

Hi Mbl19700
I have never been advised to film the car windows even though I've had stage 2b melanoma as well as several BCCs. Unless you spend all day, every day in your car, I would not think such a step is necessary. Did a dermatologist give you this recommendation?
For short journeys in the middle of the day in the summer I put sun cream on my face. For long journeys I also wear a long sleeved shirt with the collar turned up. That way I am still protected when I get out of the car
Take care
Miranda
Thanks Miranda. I wear factor 90 everyday. Regardless after a few hours in the car my face will burn lightly. I also wear spf protective clothes. Clearly, I’m not as lucky as you are but thanks for your input.
I found a company in High Wycombe and fitting will be done tomorrow. I can’t wait. Most windscreens nowadays have some protection but not enough. Studies in the US have proven it. The highest windscreen protection was found in Toyota Lexus but sadly I don’t have one!
Hi Mbl19700,
I am very pleased for you that you have a solution but very sorry that such a complicated solution is required.
If you don't mind my asking, do you reapply the cream every two hours and do you have a sun roof on your car? Do you think the slight "burn" you observe could actually be a reaction to the sun rather than an actual burn? Someone else on this site thought her legs were gettting burnt through her trousers as her legs were red after a day of hiking but it turned out to be an irritation due to the fabric and the heat and not sun burn at all.
I have very pale skin, freckles and red hair and burn very easily indeed. I don't have a sun roof on my car (nor do I have tinted windows or a Toyota Lexus!). I use factor 50 but reapply it every two hours when I am travelling.
I have never seen factor 90 on sale. What brand do you use?
Sorry for pestering you with questions but your post has got me wondering if I need to step up my own precautions.
Thanks
Miranda
Hi Miranda
Thanks for your note.
i have red hair freckles and pale skin too. I would recommend getting the uva and uvb car window film it’s been great. I have drove from London to Scotland yesterday and it’s been totally comfortable. No tingling face. No sun reaction or burn.
in answer to your questions about whether it’s necessary I think it’s personal choice. In recent years with climate change the penetration of uva and uvb rays has increased and I don’t think it’s going to decrease anytime soon. So I think it’s a worthwhile investment.
I use P20 and Heliocare. Heliocare do brilliant products that have tints in them so you don’t get that white look! The P20 I use for sailing as it’s more for arms and legs. I don’t use it on my face. Although Heliocare have just brought out an all over body spray which I have just purchased.
i would take more precautions if I was you because it’s always better than cure.
Heliocare was recommended to me by my dermatologists in 2016 and it’s been great. No skin irritation and quick drying.
hope that helps. Good health.
