For the first time I had a small mole removed . I have just found out by post that the biopsy result has shown a dysplastic naevus.
I have been referred to the Skin Multi -Disciplinary meeting to see if I need anything more doing.
Before I phone up can you please advise what questions I should be asking.
Thanks.
Hi and welcome to the online community
That's good news that your suspect mole has turned out to be a dysplastic naevi.
If you take a look at this leaflet produced by Oxford University Hospitals about them you will see that there are three types which are mildly abnormal, moderately abnormal or severely abnormal. If the mole is one of the first two types and has been completely removed then you probably won't need any further surgery but if it's the last type you might need extra skin removing from around the site of the original mole.
Let us know what is decided at the MDT meeting.

Hi latchbrook
Thank you very much - the leaflet is very informative.
i will let you know what is decided.
Hi latchbrook,
I phoned them today to ask when the meeting would be. A specialist nurse phoned me back to explain what a dysplastic naevus is. She said it wasn't cancerous.
I was given two options - wait and watch or have another surgery now to remove some skin around it .
I chose to have the skin around it removed now - this will happen in three or four months time as it is routine.
( I worry as I was diagnosed with bladder cancer nearly three years ago. OK now but have annual check ups in December. )
Thank you again for the link - at least I had read about maybe needing another surgery.
Best wishes
Marion
Hi Marion
That's good that they gave you a choice as to how you wanted to proceed. I understand how worried you might feel having had bladder cancer so can completely understand why you'd opt to have further surgery.
A few months ago a red 'lesion' appeared on the same arm as I'd had a melanoma removed from. My dermatologist gave me the choice of having it removed or not and, like you, I decided to have the surgery to remove it. Thankfully it turned out to be completely benign but there's always that nagging worry!
I hope you feel more reassured as well now that the SCNS has told you that it's benign.

UPDATE. Minor op to remove extra surrounding skin is scheduled for the end of January. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the information.
Best wishes
Marion
