Hi

I was alerted to this programme, that's on at 9pm tonight, by a member of the skin cancer group.

Apparently it follows George's progress on immunotherapy treatment after he's diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma.

  • Thanks for posting this - I’ll probably record it and watch it some other time. It looks interesting

I’m still trying to get my head around stopping my adjuvant immunotherapy, but I realise I’m in a very different position to the subject of the documentary and I’m lucky to have had 3 cycles.

I’m sure everyone will have mixed emotions watching it!

How did I miss your post , oh well two reminders is better than none at all. it shows George having targeted therapy drugs Dabrafenib and Tramatenib, and that if he has a recurrence there’s immunotherapy for him. It shows the emotions and positivity he’s been going through.

  • No problem . I found the programme very interesting as I didn't appreciate the difference between targeted therapy and immunotherapy before last night.

It would have been interesting to know if George experienced any side effects but perhaps, as they didn't mention it, he didn't.

I don't think I'd fully understand either how much treatment has come on for melanoma and that as recently as 10 years ago there was nothing they could offer if cutting it out didn't work.

An excellent programme that showed both the scientific and emotional aspects of having melanoma that has spread.

  • I thought it was a very good programme but I agree that it would have been helpful if they had said something about side effects of the new therapies.

”How’s your toxicity, George?” “Fine” wasn’t very illuminating!

But I realise there’s only so much you can cover in an hour.

  • My husband and I watched this programme with interest...he is on the same treatment as George but he is Stage 4 rather than Georges Stage 3. I found it interesting and reassuring that there is obviously more treatments coming along . Since hubby has very few side effects (fatigue and feeling cold) we didnt notice that it wasn't included in the programme. I must admit I got a shock at the cost of the treatment..... I knew it was dear but not that dear! Thank goodness for the NHS :)
