High risk melanoma

Hello, I am awaiting results for staging which I'm sure will be stage 4. I've had a lesion on my scalp for about 3 years, may be longer, thought to be benign. Developed several satellite lesions near it, my GP also thought to be benign. I paid privately to see a dermatologist beginning of February, the primary lesion is an amelonotic melonoma and satellites are melonoma, so minimum stage 3 and lesions still in my head. I had a PET SCan and get results on Tuesday. I'm so worried as amelonotic lesions are aggressive, melanoma on scalp is twice as lethal and it's been there a long time, so late presentation and spread.  I understand the treatment for melanoma now is good if you respond.  Trying to be positive as there may be hope but feel the odds are against. Not sure why I'm posting really, I think I just needed to put my fears in writing.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I was diagnosed with an amelanotic melanoma nearly 10 years ago now and after a wide local excision (WLE) and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) haven't needed any further treatment.

I know how worrying it can be waiting for a treatment plan and the results of biopsies but I wanted to reply as a fellow amelanotic melanoma sufferer so that you can see that there is hope.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Let us know how you get on with your results on Tuesday
