Sentinel Node Biopsy

Hi all,

Am hoping someone can give me a bit of an idea regarding my forthcoming SNB.

My melanoma was removed initially but as it's mitosis rate was high, I've been advised to opt for a wide local excision & sentinel node biopsy check.  The melanoma was on my thigh so the SNB will be in my groin / tummy area (if the tracer travels that far!)

Consultant has said 5-8 weeks impact due to risk of seroma and I'm just wondering what others experiences have been?

Unfortunately, I also have breast cancer so have had surgery for that and a SNB (clear nodes) but am worrying about the mobility aspect of the SNB on my leg.

Thanks in advance of you reading / responding Blush

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I had a SLNB with my WLE but mine was from my armpit so I don't have any experience of a SLNB in the groin. However, there are lots of people in the group who have had the biopsy in that area and if you click here it will take you to their posts.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hello. I had a groin SLNB last year - four lymph nodes were removed. The impact was minimal. The wound healed in a few weeks and I have a small scar. It was the rest of the surgery that took longer to heal (melanoma removed from my heel).

    Best of luck.
